李超切断与以往亲朋好友的所有联系，一直潜伏在青岛某大学。为了谋生，李超打过工，开过书店，吃了不少苦头。他想重新光明正大地生活在阳光下，并相信凭自己的能力可以闯出一片辽阔的天空。他通过非法途径弄到一套假户籍手续，他拼命读书，2004年初，被北京某知名大学录取为法律系研究生。在复习考研期间，李超结识了当时的在校大学生尚某，二人在共同考研过程中擦出了爱情的火花。为了支持李超读研，同样考取研究生的尚某甘愿放弃学业，打工为李超赚取学费。而李超也非常珍惜这次机会，在学校一直拿奖学金，并再次入党。2006年，李超作为特殊人才被引入青岛市，进入青岛市某行政机关工作，堂而皇之地做起了国家公务员，并与尚某结婚，在青岛正式安定下来。
