阿尔卑斯山下，普罗旺斯高原上，曾经是一片干旱的黄土地，没有树木没有河水，村名都离开了！有一个名叫布菲的牧羊人，他的家人都过世了，五十多岁的他，从平地搬到这里，一边牧羊，一边播种。 他花了三年的时间，埋下十万棵橡树的种子，但只有两万棵发芽，最后仅仅存活了一万棵橡树，只有十分之一的成活率。如果是一般的人，早就放弃了！但是，他仍然辛辛苦苦的种树。因为觉得自己可以担负拯救大地的任务。 放羊吃草的时候，他就爬上山坡，用一根一公尺半长，拇指粗的铁棍，向下挖一个洞，把精心挑选的种子放进去，再盖上泥土。山坡不是他的，土地不是他的，他不管这些，只管种树。在这片高原上种下橡树、桦树和山毛榉的种子。他努力地让光秃秃的高地长满了树木。 布菲就这么一直种下去，第一次世界大战爆发，他在种树。第二次世界大战爆发，他还是在种树，战争对他一点影响都没有。他也不再放羊了，因为羊会啃掉他种的树苗。于是，他改为养蜜蜂，因为蜜蜂能传播花粉，传播生命！ 日子一天天过去，变化在不知不觉中进行着。终于，高地焕然一新，散发着丰腴的光芒。 这些，都是布菲的杰作，很简单的行为，很普通的道理，很多人都明白，很多人都做不到，但是布菲做到了！ 布菲持续种树三十四年，直到八十九岁去世。三十年后，荒地变成了人间天堂，有泉水，有溪流，人们又回到了曾经遗弃的房舍。 几十年的辛苦，几十年的坚持，几十年的爱心，几十年的付出，布菲栽植出了一片诗意的高原。他用自己的因为告诉我们，只要身体力行持之以恒，就能将荒地变成沃土。 《植树的男人》绘本作者弗瑞德里克·拜克。拜克先生不只是这本书的绘画者，原来他和书中的人物布菲一样，长期在自己家乡种树。我觉得这是本书最令人动情的幕后花絮。 拜克先生一直热爱大自然，爱绿色，爱种树，事实上，在让译者看到绘本《植树的男人》之前，他自己就已经种了三万棵树！ 先生感受到他与书中的人物布菲的某种契合，所以把故事画出来是很自然的事。即使他曾经获得奥斯卡最佳动画短片奖和金棕榈奖提名而誉满全球，即使他一只眼睛失明，他仍然坚持种树！ 先生自豪的说，他这辈子种了十万棵树了，现在老了，种不动了，但在2010年两次去农场，看到树木已经长成了茂密的森林，非常欣慰。当然，让他更自豪的是:《植树的男人》绘本在许多国家问世，使得受到鼓舞的孩子每年为世界多种了几百万棵树。这本书能在中国出版真的让人高兴。
