1、侧重点不同
teenager，主要指13岁到19岁之间的青少年，强调这个年龄段的人的本身特点。
adolescent，比teenager正式，侧重年龄。adolescent的意思是“青春期的，青少年的”，强调由于生长迅速而引起的未成熟性或由于生理变化而引起的精神、情感的不稳定性，含有很强的未成熟的意味；在教育学上指小学毕业至高中毕业；在法律上则特指“出现第二性征到法定年龄间的”。
2、用法不同
teenager，主要用作名词。
adolescent，用作形容词、名词，在句中多用作定语，偶尔可用作表语。作“青春期的”“青少年的”解时不用于比较等级；口语中作“不成熟的；孩子气的；幼稚的”解时可用于比较等级。
3、读音不同
teenager，读音为英 ['tiːneɪdʒə(r)]，美 ['tiːneɪdʒər]。
