Nunan(1991)指出,英语课堂作为一个特殊的语言使用环境,教师的课堂言语行为在语言课堂教学中具有重要作用。姚仁环、洪微(2011)认为,教师指令语是课堂上教师组织各种教学活动、调控学生课堂行为时所使用的语言,教师用指令语或引导学生行为,或在活动前解释与之相关的内容和操作程序。教师的指令直接关系到课堂教学的成功与否,高效的课堂需要有效的课堂指令作为保证。Ur(1996)认为,教师对某个学习活动的解释在指令语中占了相当大的比重,在整个课堂中起着举足轻重的作用。Harmer(1998)从学生的理解角度提出教师指令语有两个基本原则:一是指令语必须尽可能简短,二是指令语必须富有逻辑。二、课堂指令语应具备的要素那么如何设计有效的课堂指令语呢?笔者进行了三年的小学英语课堂指令语研究,通过对大量真实的教学案例的研究分析,笔者认为,课堂指令语除了应具备简短、清晰、浅显易懂等要素外,还应考虑以下几个方面的要素。(一)立足学生语言水平,注重语言习得Ellis(1985)指出,在英语课堂上教师要抓住向学生输入语言的机会,使输入变为吸收。语言习得理论也指出,儿童习得语言的特点是简单、清楚、有重复性。因此教师使用的指令应立足学生现有的语言水平,尽可能使用学生已经掌握的词汇和句型,采用简单、短小、准确的句子和学生交流,避免将简单句子复杂化。设计符合学生认知水平和接受能力的有效指令语,保证教师指令能被学生所理解,才能帮助学生有效习得语言。反之,复杂、不清楚、超出学生理解能力的指令将会导致活动无效并且不利于学生习得语言。一位教师在执教外研版《英语》(新标准)(供一年级起始用)第一册Module 10 Unit 1 Where's my pen?时,设计了猜测物品所在位置的游戏活动,用于操练“Where’s my pen? It's in the hat./It's on the hat./It's under the hat.”等主要句型。教师使用了指令“Now,let's play a guessing game.One student hides your things,and the other one guesses where they are.Understand? OK,one,two,begin!”但当教师的指令下达后,原本应该是一个很有趣的游戏活动,却没有出现热火朝天的活动场面,只有少数基础较好的学生开始活动,大部分学生不知所措,有的学生开始小声讲话。分析上述指令,笔者发现,一年级的学生并不理解hide这个词的意思,也不能立刻听懂“One student hides your things,and the other one guesses where they are.”这样一个复杂句型。因此教师的活动设计虽然有趣,却因为学生不理解教师的指令语,导致活动无效。如果教师能够使用符合学生现有水平的语言,使用学生已经掌握的词汇和句型询问学生,因为理解了教师的指令,学生一定会被这样一个有趣的活动所吸引,从而更快、更好地参与学习活动。如用“Look,where’s my pencil? Can you guess?”询问学生;用“It's in the pencil-box.It's in the school bag.”引导学生猜测钢笔所在的位置;再用“Please play this game like this with your partner.”组织全体学生开展活动等。因此,教师在备课时需了解并分析学生的现有水平,保证教师指令语能为学生所理解,从而帮助学生有效习得语言。
