一、用作形容词

1、very用作形容词，表示“实在的，真正的”“极端的”，在句中用作定语。

2、very和the，this，that，my，your，his连用，作“正是，就是，甚至于”解。

二、用作副词

1、very用作副词主要用于形容词、副词、限定词(如many，few，little等)前以加强语气，表示“很，非常，十分，极”。

2、very用于形容词最高级或own之前，表示“十足，完全”。

3、very用于否定结构时，含有“恰如其分”的意味，即相当于rather或fairly。not very(不很，不大)用起来比较委婉，另外very well有时也作反语用，表示说话人自己并不怎么愿意。very much放在宾语之后或置于实义动词之前，一般不可放在句子开头。
