起源含义

歌曲的含义可能只是简单的与建造跨越泰晤士河的桥时困难重重有关，但也有一些其他的理论。

1、北欧海盗攻击理论

起源理论中的一个是：歌曲和1014（或1009）年伦敦大桥被挪威奥拉夫二世摧毁的假设有关。1844年由塞缪尔·拉宁（Samuel Laing）出版的北欧传奇挪威王列传（Heimskringla）译本包含了一段Óttarr svarti的诗。

2、孩童牺牲理论

关于埋葬（可能还活着的）小孩（人柱）到桥基里的理论出自于爱丽丝·柏莎·高姆，后称为高姆小姐的The Traditional Games of England, Scotland and Ireland（1894-8）一书，并被总是抱持怀疑的艾奥娜（Iona）和彼得·奥佩（Peter Opie）“发扬光大”。

这想法根基于一种“原始”文化的思想，即只要把人埋在桥的地基里，这桥就不会倒。但至今并没有考古证据显示伦敦桥的桥基里有任何人类躯体。

伦敦桥的简介

伦敦桥是泰晤士河上资格最老的桥，公元965年建成。第一条伦敦桥是木质构造，两千年前（50AD）的罗马时期就有了。不过这条桥很短命的，五年后就毁于战乱了。第二条桥是砖建的，1014年被侵略英国的维京王Olaf拆毁了。

目的是将英国一分为二，阻断两地的交通。这首歌据说就是当时开始流传开来的。两个世纪后改为石桥，现代所见的伦敦桥已经是第三个改建版本，1973年落成，其实只是在同一位置用同一个名字而已。
