生僻英语单词

这些不是生僻词，而是现代英语词的古老用法(archaic English),例如莎士比亚的戏剧里你经常就能看到这类的词，和我们中文的文言文是一个概念。fadeth:就是fade在旧英语中的现在式(这些词都很简单我就不用写解释了).e.g. “The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish.” ---Rule upon Rule, Todays world from Prophecy Watch.注：上面的mournth(mourn), languisheth(languish)辨认出来后就很好认了。同理，burneth就是burn. totlch我修改前面的回答，我找到了“Love me little, love me long,Is the burden of my song"的那首诗，确实同lsmt666说的一样，注释里有说明是touch-stone的意思。 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------好像不小心删掉了lsmt666的评论，ta问的是有没有专门的字典可以查这些词。我的回答是就算有也是为了相当专业的人才需要的。就像我们如今很少会在普通作文中用文言文一样，你除了阅读古典文学外是不会碰上这类词的。在你读这些诗/戏剧/小说的时候，你自然是抱着需要解析这些词的准备。再说，大多数古版的动词都很好辨认，大多数都只是多了th或者eth而已。我认为你既然有鉴赏这些相对来说生涩的文学题材的水平，能发现languisheth其实就是languish并不是困难的事。至于totlch这种特殊名词你就更不需要担心。就连native speakers都极少人知道它们的意思。一般来说，现代的文献都会为这种已经过时的词加上注释的。不过记住以下的常用词是有用的：methinks(I think), thou/thee/ye, aye, anon(soon), doth(does).
