应用领域
1、可以用作化学实验。除了用做试剂以外，由于它有很强的吸水性和潮解性，还可用做碱性干燥剂。也可以吸收酸性气体（如在硫在氧气中燃烧的实验中，氢氧化钠溶液可装入瓶中吸收有毒的二氧化硫）。
2、造纸
氢氧化钠在造纸工业中发挥着重要的作用。由于其碱性特质，它被用于煮和漂白纸页的过程。
造纸的原料是木材或草类植物，这些植物里除含纤维素外，还含有相当多的非纤维素（木质素、树胶等）。加入稀的氢氧化钠溶液可将非纤维素成分溶解而分离，从而制得以纤维素为主要成分的纸浆。
