不能用old表示员工的“老”。"old"隐含有“年龄大，不中用，没用了”等等意思。连“老人”这样的词，外国人都不会说成“old man”，而是说“the aged ”，也就是“上了年纪的人”，从而避免用“old”这个词。老员工的“老”，是指经验丰富，资历老。明显不能翻译成“old staff”。“senior staff”(高级员工)是比较常见的说法。但staff是集合名词，表示一个整体。如果要说"我是一个老员工"，就得说“I am a member of the senior staff”。还可以译成“experienced employee”(经验丰富的雇员)。说众多“老员工”时，就是“the experienced employees”；说“我是一个老员工”，就是“I am an experienced employee.”如果知道具体的工作内容，还可以在“exexperienced”后面加上具体的职业，如“experienced worker”(老工人)“experienced cook”(老厨师)等。新员工当然可以说是“inexperienced employees”
