Teachers are being held responsible as never before for how well they serve their students. It has become as common in colleges and universities for students to grade teachers as for teachers to grade students. In some universities students’ rating has even become the only source of information on teaching effectiveness.This, however, has caused great controversy. Some are in favor of the rating system. They hold that since students attend the teachers classes everyday, they should have their opinion about their teachers’ effectiveness. Others, on the contrary, are strongly against it. They think that students’ rating is easy to administer and score, but it also is easy to abuse. They believe that there is much more to teaching than what is shown on students’ rating forms. Students should not be expected to judge whether the materials used are up to date or how well the teacher knows about the subject.These judgments require professional knowledge, which is best left for the teachers’ colleagues.I think students’ rating of their teachers is necessary, but it should be conducted in a way that can really shed meaningful light on teachers’ performance. Instead of rating the teachers’ knowledge on the subject, students should be asked to estimate what they themselves have leaned in a course, and to report on such things as a teacher’s ability to communicate with students, his relationship with students, and his ability to arouse interest in the subject.

英语课堂教学评价　　前不久，学区组织各科教师录制了常态课，我们英语组每位教师都积极参与，相互交流自己的看法，不仅总结出了很多好的做法，还发现了许多不足之处，也找到了今后努力的方向。　　一、不足之处：　　1、教师发音不准，课上使用英语少。　　2、教师讲的多，学生练的少，没有充分利用电教手段。　　3、学生对英语缺乏兴趣，口语交际能力差。　　4、教师工作量繁重，常常会顾此失彼。　　小学英语师资严重匮乏，英语教师工作量过重。每个英语老师任教3-4个班，周课时15-20节，并且要跨3-4个年级，班容量一般都在50人以上。设想这种状态下的教学如何谈质量?殊不知英语教师要忙于应付每天的日常工作：自制卡片、教具、大量的练习册批改等工作，还能剩多少时间和精力去研究教材、研究学生?还能有多少时间去反思自己的教学?班容量如此之大严重影响了英语活动的开展，限制了学生参与语言实践的机会，几乎每一位教师要教300人以上，课后的补差工作又从何下手?　　5、学生缺乏吃苦精神，学习兴趣不能持久。　　在小学英语课堂上，我们始终感到热闹有余，但学习效果却不尽如人意。初学英语感到很有趣，学生的求知欲旺盛，靠机械的记忆还可应付，但久而久之，单词越学越多，学生又得记读音，又得记拼写，还得背句型。有的同学顾此失彼，由学不会到不愿意学，失去了兴趣，放弃了英语学习。究其原因，学生缺乏吃苦精神，他们只对游戏活动感兴趣，只要老师布臵背单词、读课文、听录音等任务时，学生的热情就荡然无存。英语学习本来就无什么捷径可走，要掌握英语基础知识就得死记硬背，可学生缺乏持之以恒的毅力。　　6、课堂教学中，教师设计交际运用练习时，没有信息差，导致交际活动在不真实的语境中进行，学生在现实生活中不会运用。
