某些制造商设计出产品后，会被别的企业看中，要求配上该企业自己的品牌名称来生产、销售，或者做一些小的设计上的改动进行生产，并且以自己的品牌来销售。这样做的最大的好处是后者减少了自己的研发时间。习惯称前者为后者的ODM。

OBM(OriginalBrandManufacture，原始品牌制造商)。即代工厂经营自有品牌，或者说生产商自行创立产品品牌，生产、销售拥有自主品牌的产品。

A自行创立A品牌，生产、销售拥有A品牌的产品，称为OBM；A方自带要求，让B方负责设计并生产，叫ODM；A看上B的产品，用A品牌生产或者A方自带技术和设计，让B方加工生产，叫OEM；对B方来说，只负责生产加工别人的产品，然后贴上别人的商标，这叫ODM。
