1.except prep. (常与for连用）除…以外

2.except for 除…以外
Except for a broken chair, the room is empty.except for 没有“所指项目类别”的限制。
Except a broken chair, the room has no furniture.除了一把破椅子，房间里没有家具。
3.apart from 除…以外(=except别无）
Apart from a few faults, he is a trustworthy teacher.除了一些小毛病，他是一个值得信任的老师。
Apart from the cost, the dress doesn’t suit me.除价钱外，这件套装也不适合我。
besides, except：
besides, except都含有“除…以外”的意思。
besides指“除外，另外还有”，着重“另外还有”，如：
I have five other books besides this.
除这本书以外，我还有五本别的书。
except的含意是“从整体里减去一部分”，因为“所说的道理或事实不能适用于那部分”，着重于“排除在外”，如：
We all went there except XiaoLi.
除了小李以外，我们都到那儿去了。
