意思是扭转局面、反败为胜。据说起源于一种叫西洋双陆棋的游戏，这个游戏的名字为tables,玩这个游戏需要运气，很多快要失败的玩家借助游戏规则实现反败为胜。

throw down the glove

意思是挑战，有这样的一个说法，在中世纪的欧洲，gauntlet指的是骑士戴的用皮革和金属片做成的铁手套。骑士如果想向别人挑战时，就会摘下手套扔在地上，若对方接受挑战，那么就捡起手套。后来人们用glove代替了gauntlet，因而它的实际意思是“挑战”。
