肯德基创始人桑德斯上校六十五岁开始创业,他创业成功给我们很多启示:成功的秘诀,就在于确认出什么对你是最重要的,然后拿出各样行动;不达目的誓不休。在此,我要跟各位举个例子,不知道你是否听过桑德斯上校的故事?他是“肯德基炸鸡”连锁店的创办人,你又知道他是如何建立起这么成功的事业吗?是因为生在富豪家、念过像哈佛这样著名的高等学府、亦或是在很年轻时便投身于这门事业上?你认为是那一个呢? 上述的答案都不是,事实上桑德斯上校于年龄高达六十五岁时才开始从事这个事业,那么又是什么原因使他终于拿出行动来呢? 因为他身五分文且孑然一身,当他拿到生平第一张救济金支票时,金额只有一百零五美元,内心实在是极度沮丧。他不怪这个社会,也未写信去骂国会,仅是心平气地自问这句话:“到底我对人们能做出何种贡献呢?我有什么可以回馈的呢?” 随之,他便思量起自己的所有,试图找出可为之处。 头一个浮上他心头的答案是:“很好,我拥有一份人人都会喜欢的炸鸡秘方,不知道餐馆要不要?我这么做是否划算?”随即他又想到:“要是我不仅卖这份炸鸡秘方,同时还教他们怎样才能炸得好,这会怎么样呢?如果餐馆的生意因此而提升的话,那又该如何呢?如果上门的顾客增加,且指名要点用炸鸡,或许餐馆会让我从其中抽成也说不定。” 好点子固然人人都会有,但桑德斯上校就跟大多数人不一样,他不但会想,且还知道怎样付诸行动。随之他便开始挨家挨户的敲门,把想法告诉每家餐馆:“我有一份上好的炸鸡秘方,如果你能采用,相信生意一定能够提升,而我希望能从增加的营业额里抽成。”很多人都当面嘲笑他:“得了罢,老家伙,若是有这么好的秘方,你干嘛还穿着这么可笑的白色服装?” 这些话是否让桑德斯上校打退堂鼓呢?丝毫没有,因为他还拥有天字第一号的成功秘方,我称其为“能力法则”(Personal Power),意思是指“不懈地拿出行动”:在你每当做什么事时,必得从其中好好学习,找出下次能做得更好的方法。桑德斯上校确实奉行了这条法则,从不为前一家餐馆的拒绝而懊恼,反倒用心修正说词, 以更有效的方法去说服下一家餐馆。 桑德斯上校的点子最终被接受,你可知先前被拒绝了多少次吗?整整一千零九次之后,他才听到了第一声“同意”。在过去两年时间里,他驾着自己那辆又旧又破的老爷车,足迹遍及美国每一个角落。困了就和衣睡在后座,醒来逢人便诉说他那些点子。他为人示范所炸的鸡肉,经常就是裹腹的餐点,往往匆匆便解决了一顿。 在历经一千零九次的拒绝,整整两年的时间,有多少人还能够锲而不舍地继续下去呢?真是少之又少了,也无怪乎世上只有一位桑德斯上校。我相信很难有几个人能受得了二十次的拒绝,更遑论一百次或一千次的拒绝,然而这也就是成功的可贵之处。 如果你好好审视历史上那些成大功、立大业的人物,就会发现他们都有一个共同的特点:不轻易为“拒绝”所打败而退却,不达成他们的理想、目标、心愿就绝不罢休。 华德迪斯尼为了实现建立“地球最欢乐之地”的美梦,四出向银行融资,可是被拒绝了三百零二次之多,每家银行都认为他的想法怪异。其实并不然,他有远见,尤其是有决心想实现。今天,每年有上百万游客享受到前所未有的“迪斯尼欢乐”,这全都出于一个人的决心。 当我还住在那间寒伧的单身公寓并在浴缸中清洗碗盘的日子里,就不时提醒自己上述那些感人事迹,我对自己说任何问题都不会长久存在,也不会一直影响我的人生,只要我能不断拿出行动,积极且有建设性的行动,那么那些问题就会迎刃而解。此外,我也这么想:“纵使我此刻的情况不佳,但依然有些值得感恩的地方,例如还有两位好朋友、脑筋也没错乱,甚至于还能呼吸” 我不断地提醒自己留意所想要的,别只看见问题却不见解决的办法。我更告诫自己,即使那些问题此刻困扰着我,但绝不会一辈子缠着我而不去。 因此,我决定不管在金钱上或心情上有多么不顺遂,都绝不让生命再陷在其中。同时我也认定,自己的命运并不是真那么糟,只是好时光尚未到来罢了。 我相信,只要能不断辛勤灌溉所种下的种子--持续去做对的事情——那么就会走出人生的冬季、进入春季,多年看似不见成效的努力就终必有收成的一天。我不会再那么死心眼,一再重复做那相同的事,却寄望会有不同的结果;相反的,我要不断另辟新径,直到找着自己所想要的答案。 多方且一致地去尝试,凭毅力与弹性去追求所企望的目标,至终必然会得着所要的,可千万别在中途便放弃希望。这句话说来简单,但我相信你一定会从内心同意,就从今天起拿出必要的行动,哪怕那只是小小的一步。很多人会接受这个道理,但为何不马上拿出行动来呢?答案是他们害怕失败,在此我就要告诉各位,失败的另一层积极意义……
