DM-i有着多项领先于其它混动技术的优势,而它的“核心思想”就是以电为主,用油为辅。架构上,DM-i超级混动以大容量电池和大功率电机为基础,车辆在行驶过程当中依靠大功率电机进行驱动,而汽油发动机的主要功能是为电池充电。

只有在需要更多动力的时候才会直驱,并且也只是和电机协同工作以减小负荷。这样的混动技术有别于传统混动技术依赖发动机的特性,从而能够更有效降低油耗。

比亚迪的DM-i超级混动技术核心组件为比亚迪新研制的骁云插混专用发动机,其中有两个不同的版本——1.5L发动机主要用于秦PLUS、宋PLUS;而1.5T涡轮增压发动机则用于更大型的唐DM-i车型。

当然这些车型还有两个重要部件:EHS双电机、DM-i超级混动专用刀片电池,加上一系列的整车控制系统、发动机控制系统、电机控制系统、电池管理系统,共同构成超级混动系统,最重要的是这些核心部件和关键技术完全由比亚迪自主研发。
