在20世纪90年代末，盖洛尼尔森和布鲁司安德森(太阳能建筑师、作家、新罕布什尔州“地球日”组织者)共同为把“地球日”办成一个年度性、高水准的活动，创办了“美国地球日”组织。“地球日”网页于1995年开通。1999年“美国地球日”组织更名为“地球日网络”，成为一个面向全世界、推动每年“地球日”国际活动的组织。2000年的“地球日”，又是由盖洛尼尔森和丹尼斯海斯领导，所不同的是，这次他们在1970年“地球日”的基础上，加入了全球性的公众运动，并充分利用了网络这一新兴的信息手段，把各国人民的智慧和热情都聚集在了一起。在盖洛尼尔森、丹尼斯海斯和其战友们的努力下，今天的“地球日”已真正成为全地球的节日，提醒着人类保护地球、善待地球。

通过这期节目的观看和学习，我自己也感受颇深。因为随着时代变迁和经济的飞速发展，我们的生活虽然变得越来越便利，科技也越来越发达。但是与此同时环境的污染也在急剧上升中，比如因为汽车尾气和温室气体工业废气排放过量造成的雾霾天气；因为过渡砍伐造成森林面积缩小从而引起土壤流失土地沙漠化；因为工业废水乱排放引起水源污染等等问题都越来越严重了。环境污染成了一个重大隐患，所以我们为了人类的生存环境，必须要从现在开始做好环保措施了。
Through watching and learning this program, I also feel deeply.
