校史沿革
浙江传媒学院前身为浙江广播电视高等专科学校，而浙江广播电视高等专科学校又是由原分别独立建制的浙江广播电视学校和浙江广播电视高等专科学校联合组建而成的。在两校合并组建新的浙江广播电视高等专科学校之前，浙江广播电视学校和浙江广播电视高等专科学校分属不同的部门直属管辖，前者由浙江省广播电视厅直属管辖，后者由国家广播电视部（国家新闻出版广电总局）直属管辖，两校独立发展，没有行政隶属和业务从属关系。两校合并后，融为一体，开始了新的发展，由此产生和建立了浙江传媒学院。
一、中专初创（1978年-2000年）：
浙江广播电视学校教育事业的发展始终与国家广播电视事业的发展、浙江经济社会发展相关联。1978年的中国，正处在十年文化大革命结束，各项事业拨乱反正、百废待兴的重要历史关头，浙江广播电视事业的发展也急需一批高素质的人才。在此背景下，浙江广播电视学校应运而生。
学校在初创时期是一所培养新闻与广播电视技术专业人才的中专学校，由浙江省广播事业管理局主管。校址位于余杭和临安交界一个叫万市的山村，校舍是二十世纪五六十年代修建的浙江人民广播电台战备用台（201台）。
在当时计划经济的体制下，师生的粮、油、煤、电等生活用品难以保障，学生和教工的工作、学习及生活环境都非常简陋。广大师生员工没有被前进中的困难、跋涉中的险阻吓倒，反而同心协力、艰苦奋斗、共克时艰。万市展现在全体师生员工面前的是为逐梦而创业的艰难，但是所有师生员工在万市收获的却是思想、情感和真诚。
1982年11月，学校搬迁到杭州市拱墅区时称“第二文教区”内的舟山东路65号。经过多年的艰苦建设，到2000年，学校成为一所具备一定规模、办学特色鲜明、全国知名的中等专业学校。
二、高专奠基（1984年——2000年）：
为了响应党中央关于要使中国的广播电视事业“在本世纪末进入世界先进行列”的号召，国家广播电视部与浙江广播电视厅合作筹建浙江广播电视专科学校，以培养较高层次的广播电视人才。
1984年4月，国家广电部下达《关于同浙江广播电视厅合办学校事》，以正式文件批复浙江广播电视厅同意扩建、合办一所广播电视新闻学校。同年10月，国家广电部正式作出《关于同浙江广播电视厅合办广播电视专科学校的决定》。
1986年，学校根据国家广电部的意见，边筹建边招生，在浙江省范围内招收了首届43名学生，其中新闻专业20名，播音专业23名，其中播音专业自费生3名，学制为两年。
1994年，学校经国家广电部同意、报国家教委批准，正式更名为浙江广播电视高等专科学校。在短短的几年时间里，为全国输送了大批优秀的广电人才。“北有北广，南有浙广”的美誉逐渐形成。
三、合并转型（2000年——2004年）
2000年5月，按照上级政府的部署，广电学校与已经转制为国家广电总局与浙江省人民政府共建共管的广电高专合并，组建新的浙江广播电视高等专科学校。
2001年10月，省政府正式批文同意在浙江广播电视高等专科学校的基础上筹建浙江传媒学院，待办学条件达到普通高等学校设置规定时，再向教育部正式申报成立。2003年1月，国家教育部正式批准在浙江广播电视高等专科学校的基础上筹建浙江传媒学院。2004年3月，在全国高校设置评议委员会专题会议上，学校顺利通过升格评审。
四、快速发展（2004年—）：
2004年5月，教育部正式下文批准成立浙江传媒学院。与此同时，新校区在杭州下沙高教园区顺利建成。2009年9月，浙江省人民政府下发了《关于建设浙江传媒学院桐乡校区的批复》，2011年9月，桐乡校区正式投入使用，两校区总占地1286亩，总建筑面积近61万平方米。同时学校通过了教育部的升本评估、教育厅的教学水平评估、学士学位授予权评估，2012年学校成功获得了专业硕士学位授予权。
