A级考试为高职高专学生应该达到的标准要求，B级考试略低于A级考试，是过渡性的要求。
原“大学英语三级考试”相当于“高等学校英语应用能力A级考试”，原“大学英语二级考试”相当于“高等学校英语应用能力B级考试”。
