此文出自印度诗人·拉宾德拉纳特·泰戈尔的《世界上最遥远的距离》
写作背景：
泰戈尔的家庭属于商人兼地主阶级，是婆罗门种姓，在英国东印度公司时代财运亨通，成为柴明达地主。他的祖父和父亲都是社会活动家，在当时积极赞成孟加拉的启蒙运动，支持社会改革。
他的父亲对吠陀和奥义书颇有研究，是哲学家和宗教改革者，富有民族主义倾向，由于与社会上的传统习俗格格不入，被习惯势力祝为没有种姓的外化之人。
他有子女十四人，泰戈尔是家中最小的一个。就是在这个家庭，兄弟姐妹和侄辈中颇出了一些学者和艺术家。由于生长在这样一个印度传统文化与西方文化和谐交融的书香门第，因而泰戈尔从小就受到家庭环境的熏陶。
作者简介：
1861年5月7日，泰戈尔生于印度西孟加拉邦加尔各答。由于是父母最小的儿子，拉宾德拉纳特被家人亲呢地叫做“拉比”，成为家庭中每个成员钟爱的孩子，但大家对他并不溺爱。
小拉比在加尔各答先后进过四所学校，虽然他对这四所学校都不喜欢，但他在长兄和姐姐的监督下受到良好的教育。
泰戈尔在文学方面的修养首先来自家庭环境的熏陶。他进过东方学院、师范学院和孟加拉学院。但是他生性自由，厌恶刻板的学校生活，没有完成学校的正规学习课程。
他从小就醉心于诗歌创作，从13岁起就开始写诗，诗中洋溢着反对殖民主义和热爱祖国的情绪。13岁以后，泰戈尔发表了长诗《野花》、《诗人的故事》等。

他的作品反映了印度人民在帝国主义和封建种姓制度压迫下要求改变自己命运的强烈愿望，描写了他们不屈不挠的反抗斗争，充满了鲜明的爱国主义和民主主义精神。
