The day before the sheep year, everyone is busy with the big meal, all the family members get together and have the dinner. People pay special attention to it, for they have the less time to get reunited. My family talks so happily and we enjoy the precious moment. The family reunion is so important for all the people, no matter how busy they are, they will come home for the dinner.

Family means so much for me, I have a big family, because my mother and my father have many brothers and sisters. Living in the big family, I feel the love all the time, we care for each other. Every week, my family will have a gathering, we will do some activities, so that we can keep in touch closely.

It is important to keep in touch with the family members. Since we are busy with our own business in usual, so if we don’t make the appointment, there is no way for us to meet. My family members keep the tradition to have the gathering every weekend. Sometimes we will have the big dinner, sometimes we will have the barbecue. These activities help us to keep the close relationship. We share our opinion, the parents are talking about their work stuff and the kids are playing happily.

Family gathering is a good way to keep in touch with each other. I enjoy the moment when all of us meet in a place. Communication helps us to solve the problem of isolation.

I’m a middle school student in Grade 8. Yesterday was Saturday and some of my classmates in primary school had a reunion at our primary teacher’s home. Our teacher taught us for four years and she treated as her own children. We loved her very much. In the afternoon, we just talked and shared our lives in middle school. Happily, most of us have a rich and happy life. Our teacher told us some interesting stories of her new students. After that, we made a big dinner together. Our teacher is a brilliant cook who can make delicious foods. We all ate much. After dinner, we watched TV for a while and then we went home. It was really a good day.

I and some of my classmates in primary school had a reunionin our English teacher Miss Wang's home on Middle Autumn Day.

Miss Wang have taught us for 6 years,in our mind, she is our mother. All my best friend in primary school joined the meeting.Li Ming was fatter than before,Wang Hua was as black as usual,Liu Yan was a little taller ,and Chen Yuan was more beautiful than before. All of us are getting well with our new teachers and classmates. Then we made a big dinner together. Miss Wang is a brilliant cook who can make delicious foods. We all ate much. After dinner, we watched TV for a while and then we went home.

【Culture Shock】Do you think studying in a different country is something that sounds very exciting? Like many young people who leave home to study in another country, do you think you would have lots of desirable fun? Certainly, it is a new experience, which brings the opportunity of discovering fascinating things and a feeling of freedom. In spite of these advantages, however, there are also some challenges you will encounter. Because your views may clash with the different beliefs, norms, values, and traditions that exist in different countries, you may have difficulty adjusting to a new culture and to those parts of the culture not familiar to you. This is culture shock.Evidently, at least four essential stages of culture-shock adjustment occur. The first stage is called “the honeymoon.” In this stage, you feel excitement about living in a different place, and everything seems to be marvelous. You like everything, and everybody seems to be so nice to you. Also, the amusement of life in a new culture seems as though it will have no ending.Eventually, however, the second stage of culture shock appears. This is the “hostility stage.” You begin to notice that not everything is as good as you had originally thought it was. You become tired of many things about the new culture. Moreover, people don’t treat you like a guest anymore. Everything that seemed to be so wonderful at first is now awful, and everything makes you feel distressed and tired. Usually at this point in your adjustment to a new culture, you devise some defense mechanisms to help you cope and to protect yourself against the effects of culture shock. One type of coping mechanism is called “repression.” This happens when you pretend that everything is acceptable and that nothing bothers you. Another type of defense mechanism is called “regression.” This occurs when you start to act as if you are younger than you actually are; you act like a child. You forget everything, and sometimes you become careless and irresponsible. The third kind of defense mechanism is called “isolation.” You would rather be home alone, and you don’t want to communicate with anybody. With isolation, you try to avoid the effects of culture shock, or at least that’s what you think. Isolation is one of the worst coping mechanisms you can use because it separates you from those things that could really help you. The last type of defense mechanism is called “rejection.” With this coping mechanism, you think you don’t need anybody. You feel you are coping fine alone, so you don’t try to ask for help. The defense mechanisms you utilize in the hostility stage are not helpful. If you only occasionally use one of these coping mechanisms to help yourself survive, that is acceptable. You must be cautious, however. These mechanisms can really hurt you because they prevent you from making necessary adjustments to the new culture. After you deal with your hostile feelings, recognition of the temporary nature of culture shock begins. Then you come to the third stage called “recovery.” In this stage, you start feeling more positive, and you try to develop comprehension of everything you don’t understand. The whole situation starts to become more favorable; you recover from the symptoms of the first two stages, and you adjust yourself to the new norms, values, and even beliefs and traditions of the new country. You begin to see that even though the distinctions of the culture are different from your own, it has elements that you can learn to appreciate. The last stage of culture shock is called “adjustment.” In this stage, you have reached a point where you actually feel good because you have learned enough to understand the new culture. The things that initially made you feel uncomfortable or strange are now things that you understand. This acquisition of understanding alleviates much of the stress. Now you feel comfortable; you have adjusted to the new culture.Evidently, culture shock is something you cannot avoid when living in a foreign country. It does not seem like a very helpful experience when you are going through its four stages. However, when you have completely adjusted to a new culture you can more fully enjoy it. You learn how to interact with other people, and you learn a considerable amount about life in a culture that is not your own. Furthermore, learning about other cultures and how to adjust to the shock of living in them helps you learn more about yourself.

例如:“由于位置偏僻,交通不便和缺乏信息媒介,农村社会保持着与世隔绝的状态”这个句子很多留学生用简单句写出来就是这样:①Because there is a great distance and there are not enough transport facilities, the rural world is isolated. This isolation hay became more serious because there are not enough information media.但是我们用复合句表达出来效果如下:②The isolation of the rural world, because of distance and the lack of transport facilities, is compounded by the paucity of the information media. A few days before, I saw a cartoon, in which a student asks his teacher where he can find a book named How to Do Well in School without Studying. The teacher asks him to find it in the fiction section. Apparently, the cartoon ironically demonstrates a truth that there’s no such a thing as a shortcut to studying. It’s the nature of study that requires a solid foundation. Just as we cannot build a castle in the air, neither can we obtain advanced knowledge through a shortcut, for ever a slight shortcut can shatter the whole foundation, For example, students may choose to cheat to acquire a good score. However, the cheaters will wind up in a total ignorance, let alone dishonesty. In addition, although many students are averse to learning by rote, there is no denying that only by rote can one remember and learn basic knowledge, thusachieving the possibility to further study in the future. In this case, shortcuts also do not exist. To sum up, students should come to realize that there exists no shortcut in study. Only by hard work can we form the bedrock of good performance in school. 如see through, see over sth., see about sth., see sb. /sth. out 等。 外教很可能不用every day 而用 on a daily basis, 不用 in a hurry而用at the drop of hat, 不用He took part in the competition. 而说Heentered for the competition. 不说He must be nearly 60 years old. 而说He must be going on for 60. 例如,要表达秋叶满地的场景,下面哪个句子会更好?③There are a number of autumn leaves lying on the ground.④ Dead leaves covered the ground. All this helps explain Germans' attitudes towards the euro crisis. German voters are skeptical of transfers to southern Europe not just because of their fear of inflation or their experience with pouring money into former East Germany, but also because the typical German worker feels that he is no better off than the Spaniards he sees driving Audis when he holidays on the Costa Brava. After a decade of scant real wage growth, and given the unusually skewed wealth distribution, that perception is not altogether wrong.“他在布拉瓦海岸度假”,这句话很多留学生可能会写成He goes on holiday on the Costa Brava. He holidays on the Costa Brava. 我们都学过made from 和made of, 还有die from和die of, 两者的辨析简直让人抓狂。 However, is the phenomenon worthy of such optimism? However, can we be optimistic that what has worked in the past will work in the future?
