一、地理位置
广州塔位于广州市中心，城市新中轴线与珠江景观轴交汇处，与海心沙岛和广州市21世纪CBD区珠江新城隔江相望。广州塔北临40米宽的滨江路和滨江绿化步行带：南临40米宽的双塔路，东西两侧分别为30米宽的艺苑东、西路。
场地西侧地下有地铁三号线及珠江新城区域轨道交通南北向贯穿，中南部地下有地铁六号线延长线东西向贯穿，场地西南角与赤岗塔毗邻。
二、名称由来
中文名为“广州塔”。世界大多数电视塔均以地名命名，广州电视塔也需要使用地名命名，因为有海外调查资料显示在纯粹的老外中，对中国城市的了解主要是北京和上海，对广州比较陌生，时常不知广州在中国何处。因此，广州电视塔的命名不仅是命名的问题，应该承载向全世界传播“广州”概念的要素。
英文名为“CantonTower”。英文名不用“GuangzhouTower”是因为“Guangzhou”这个名称在西文语境中比较陌生，发音也比较别扭。
更为重要的是，在中国对外开放通商历史中，作为海上丝绸之路的起源和起点，广州被世人所认识的英文名称一直是“Canton”。“Canton”既指广州，也指广东，广东话、广州人、广东人在英文中都是“Cantonese”。

广州塔由钢筋混凝土内核心筒及钢结构外框筒以及连接两者之间的组合楼层组成，核心筒高度454m，共88层，标准层高5.2m；楼层37层，其余为镂空层，地下2层。37层楼面沿整个塔体高度按功能层分为A～E五个功能段。总建筑面积121788平方米。

外框筒用钢量4万多吨，总用钢量约6万吨。作为广州市的标志性建筑屹立在中轴线的珠江南岸，是国内最高、也是目前世界已建成的最高的塔桅建筑。
