满洲里市位于内蒙古自治区呼伦贝尔市西部，东经117°12′至117°53′，北纬49°19′至49°41′。东临新巴尔虎左旗，南、西与新巴尔虎右旗相邻，北与俄罗斯联邦接壤。
全市东西最长50公里，南北最宽34公里，呈不规则的狭长地带，总面积为453平方公里。中俄边境满洲里管段全长101.1公里，其中满洲里辖区内的国境线全长54公里（包括水界12.7公里）。
气候特征
满州里中温带大陆性草原气候，干湿区域类型为半干旱区。冬季寒冷漫长，夏季温凉短促，春季干燥风大，秋季气温骤降，霜冻早。年平均气温0.7℃，年均降水量300毫米左右，降水集中于7月～8月的植物生长旺期。
地形地貌
满洲里市处于呼伦贝尔高平原和大兴安岭边缘过渡地带，主要地形为波状起伏的丘陵。霍尔津山脉呈东北—西南走向，横亘于市区中部，致使中部高、西部平缓、东部为沼泽洼地。地势由西北向东南倾斜，坡度比较平缓。地貌特征分为丘陵和山间洼地两个地貌单元。
