耿爽在卸任外交部发言人一职后，再次出现在我们面前是耿爽出席安理会审议联合国驻西非和萨赫勒地区办事处工作的视频，首次亮相联合国全英文发言呼吁国际抗击疫情。这是他卸任后网友第一次看到有关他的视频，视频中的他依旧帅气，精神焕发。也让广大网友再次惊叹他的才华，多才多艺能说会道，语言功底深厚。引起了很多人的关注。
在发言中耿爽表示，近一时期西部非洲和萨赫勒地区形势保持总体稳定。在此时，地区国家仍然面临着严峻安全挑战，新冠肺炎疫情更是对地区经济社会发展造成了不利影响，给地区形势带来新的复杂因素。目前，疫情仍在西非和萨赫勒地区扩散蔓延。办事处的当务之急是要密切关注地区疫情发展情况，深入分析疫情的影响，帮助地区国家提高防疫意识和抗疫能力，加强卫生体系建设，更好地保护人民生命安全和身体健康，并缓解疫情对地区国家带来的冲击和负面影响。国际社会应推动地区国家坚持通过对话解决分歧，支持地区国家通过发展消除不稳定的根源，帮助地区国家积极应对安全威胁，并向地区国家及时提供人道援助。同时他还表示，中国是西非和萨赫勒国家的好朋友、好伙伴，一定会一直积极支持地区国家维护和平，消除贫困，改善民生，推进发展。中方将继续支持秘书长特别代表和办事处的工作，同国际社会同为地区国家抗击疫情，实现和平、稳定与发展作出努力与贡献。
