英文中的7月（July）来源于古罗马将军朱利叶斯·凯撒（史称凯撒大帝，生前并未称帝），他死后人们将他的名字Julius命名为7月。
九月（September）来历
按照罗马旧历，March为第一个月，September就是第七个月。September这一名称源自意为“七”的拉丁文septem。当罗马人采用了儒略历（The Julian Calendar）之后，他们保留了原先的好几个月名，September就成了“九月”。
9世纪初，西欧封建帝国查理曼帝国的皇帝查理曼（Charlemagne）拒绝接受该罗马名称，把九月称为“收获月”，英文仿此叫法。因此长期以来九月在英文里一直称为‘harvest-month’，意即“收获月”。
November——11月
罗马皇帝奥古斯都和凯撒都有了自己名字命名的月份，罗马市民和元老院要求当时的罗马皇帝梯比里乌斯用其名命名11月。
但梯比里乌斯没有同意，他明智地对大家说，如果罗马每个皇帝都用自己的名字来命名月份，那么就出现了第13个皇帝。
于是，11月仍然保留着旧称 Novem，即拉丁文“9”的意思。英语11月November便由此演变而来。
