《奇迹男孩》创作背景：
小说原作者帕拉西奥是一位出版社的编辑，她育有两个儿子。有一天，她带着孩子们外出玩耍，在冰激凌店排队买冰激凌时，发现队伍前面有一个小女孩脸部有非常严重的缺陷。她三岁的小儿子乍一看立刻吓得哭了起来。
帕拉西奥觉得很尴尬，她立即意识到孩子的哭叫会伤害到小女孩和她的家人，便急急带着儿子们走了。就在他们离开时，她听到小女孩的母亲用非常冷静和友好的口吻对自己的孩子说：“好了，孩子们，我们该走了哦。”
这真实的一幕后来被帕拉西奥写进了杰克的故事，只不过把妈妈的身份换成了保姆。
