有很多人把SMD理解成SMT，这两个有时候的确可以混用，但本质上还是有差别的。
SMT：英文Surface Mount Technology的缩写，中文意思是表面贴焊（装）技术，将电子零件焊接到电路板表面的技术。
SMD：英文Surface Mount Device的缩写,中文是表面贴焊零件，泛指可以使用SMT技术的电子零件。
从字面上来讲，SMT就是将电子零件焊接到电路板上表面的一种技术，SMT技术可以大幅降低电子产品的体积，达到更轻薄，短小的目的。
SMT是怎么样将电子零件焊接到电路板上？答案就是锡膏（SMT贴片加工中锡膏有哪几种类）只要把锡膏印刷在需要焊接零件的焊盘上面，然后再放上电子零件，焊脚要刚好放在锡膏的位置，让锡膏经过高温回流焊，炉子内的高温高过锡膏的熔点（不可以高到烧坏电子零件的温度），炉子高温将锡膏融化。锡膏变成液体，液体的锡膏将包裹住电子零件的焊脚，等经过炉子冷却区后锡膏重新变回固体，就会将电子零件牢固的焊接在电路板上面。
