有！英国对汉学的研究比法国、德国和俄国都要晚。在18世纪的英国，除了威廉·琼斯爵士（Sir William Jones,1746—1794）这个大汉学家，似乎还找不到第二个人。琼斯爵士大概在他21岁的时候便已经开始接触汉语，阅读了柏应理和殷铎泽等人译的拉丁文版的《大学》、《中庸》、《论语》。从此，他对儒家学说和孔子产生了浓厚兴趣。他读完《大学》后，还写了一篇议论教育的文章，流传至今的只有文章的大纲。琼斯通过阅读这些儒家经典，加强了自身道德教育的信念，开拓了思想的领域。同时，《大学》中引用的《诗经》中的若干诗篇也使他初次接触到了中国的古典诗歌。琼斯曾经将《卫风·淇奥》中的一节分别用直译和意译的方式译成拉丁文，与其通信的波兰梵文学者瑞微兹基（Rivicski）看到他的译文后，十分赞赏，称其十分高雅和不同寻常。大约在1785年和1788年之间，琼斯担任亚洲学会的会长，发表了一篇关于《诗经》的演讲。在这篇演讲中，选有琼斯根据《大学》翻译的三节《诗经》中的诗，它们分别是：《淇奥》、《桃夭》和《节南山》。翻译时他参考了柏应理的拉丁文译本。他的译文比之前的珀西的译本准确多了。
法国汉学家杜赫德的《中华帝国全志》在1736年和1738年曾分别由布鲁克斯（R. Brookes）和凯夫（E. Cave）译成英文，英语读者由此最早接触到了其中收录的《诗经》和《书经》。“1829年，英国汉学家戴维斯（J. F. Davis）在其专著《汉文诗解》里以《诗经》和先秦至六朝民歌为例论述中国诗歌格律，开创了《诗经》原文英译的先河。”
第一部英译本的《论语》的翻译者是顾利（David Collie）,“他曾担任过马六甲的英华书院的汉语教授，英华书院印行过他的四书译本，书题为《通常被称之为四书的中国经典著作集》（1928）。”
