Lesson 78 The last one? After reading an article entitled 'Cigarette Smoking and Your Health' I lit a cigarette to calm my nerves. I smoked with concentration and pleasure as I was sure that this would be my last cigarette. For a whole week I did not smoke at all and during this time, my wife suffered terribly. I had all the usual symptoms of someone giving up smoking: a bad temper and an enormous appetite. My friends kept on offering me cigarettes and cigars. They made no effort to hide their amusement whenever I produced a packet of sweets from my pocket. After seven days of this I went to a party. Everybody around me was smoking and I felt extremely uncomfortable. When my old friend Brian urged me to accept a cigarette, it was more than I could bear. I took one guiltily, lit it and smoked with satisfaction. My wife was delighted that things had returned to normal once more. Anyway, as Brian pointed out, it is the easiest thing in the world to give up smoking. He himself has done it lots of times!Lesson 79 By AirI used to travel by air a great deal when I was a boy. My parents used to live in South America and I used to fly there from Europe in the holidays. A flight attendant would take charge of me and I never had an unpleasant experience. I am used to traveling by air and only on one occasion have I ever felt frightened. After taking off, we were flying low over the city and slowly gaining height, when the plane suddenly turned round and flew back to the airport. While we were waiting to land, a flight attendant told us to keep calm and to get off the plane quietly as soon as it had touched down. Everybody on board was worried and we were curious to find out what had happened. Later we learnt that there was a very important person on board. The police had been told that a bomb had been planted on the plane. After we had landed, the plane was searched thoroughly. Fortunately, nothing was found and five hours later we were able to take off again.

1、SUSAN:That was quick! Have you finished already?
所以“That was quick”用过去时。
2、PETER:That was a pleasant surprise.

I must water the garden first. 我写的i must have water to garden first。 若用have to 可改为:I have to water the garden first.(别丢冠词)2. 课文Do you have to water it now? 我写的do you have to now可以吗? Do you have to do it now? (宾语it也不能省略)3课文 What a nuisance! 4课文That was quick! 例如:How beautiful she is! How fast he runs! 5课文Have you finished already? 我写的did you finishi it可以吗解答:不可以。因为本句用 现在完成时 have finished 搭配副词 already 表示“已经做完了某事”,而你的Did you finish it? Yes. Look out of the window. 我写的yes, you see windows outside可以吗解答:不可以。 That means You don't need to water the garden. 我写的that means you needn't have water to the garden可以吗? 这里的意思是“你不必浇水了”,表示“没有必要做”的含义,一般就可以用“don't need to do” 或者 “don't have to do”,同时“needn't do”也是允许的,只是现代英语不常用了。可以看出,don't need to do 结构中,need 是实义动词的用法,接to do(动词不定式)做宾语,而不是情态动词的用法。8课文It means I can have tea, instead. 我写的it means i have tea instead可以吗?
