Know thy self, know thy enemy, a thousand battles, a thousand victories.知己知彼，百战百胜。Move not unless you see an advantage, use not your troops unless there is something to be gained, fight not unless the position is critical. 非利不动，非得不用，非危不战。Let your plans be dark and impenetrable as the night, and when you move, fall like a thunderbolt. 难知如阴，动如雷震。In the midst of chaos there is also opportunity. 乱而取之（混乱中往往蕴藏机会）。All warfare is based on deception, hence, when we are able to attack we must seem unable, when using our forces we must appear inactive, when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away, when far away, we must make him believe we are near. 兵者，诡道也。故能而示之不能，用而示之不用，近而示之远，远而示之近。Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win. 胜兵先胜而后求战，败兵先战而后求胜。Build your opponent a golden bridge to retreat across. 穷寇莫追。When the enemy is relaxed, make them toil; when full, starve them; when settled, make them move. 佚能劳之，饱能饥之，安能动之。
