第一个教师节
1984年12月10日，《北京晚报》头版刊发文章《王梓坤校长建议开展尊师重教月活动》，时任北师大校长的王梓坤通过媒体把单独设立一个教师节的想法发表了出来。而这只是他推动设立教师节努力的第一步。
几天后，王梓坤召开座谈会，正式倡议由国家确定每年9月在全国开展尊师重教活动，并将该月的一天定为教师节。随后，他起草了《关于在全国开展“尊师重教”月的建议》，和钟敬文、启功、陶大镛、朱智贤、黄济、赵擎寰等人联名，向全国人大常委会提交建议。
对设立教师节已考虑多时的相关部门迅速抓住机会推动此事。在王梓坤的倡议发出一个多月后，即1985年1月21日，第六届全国人大常委会九次会议同意国务院关于建立教师节的议案，决定每年9月10日为教师节。
