一、早年经历
李娜从小就受父亲影响，1988年开始练习羽毛球，1989年的时候，被网球教练夏溪瑶相中开始练网球。在教练夏溪瑶身边，李娜完成了小学学业。
小学毕业后，李娜1996年进入湖北省队，遇到了她职业生涯中的又一个“贵人”教练余丽桥。在余丽桥的指导下，李娜在球场上练得更苦。1997年，15岁的李娜赴美国训练7个月。1999年李娜进入国家队。
二、宣布退役
2014年9月19日，作为亚洲首位网球大满贯得主的李娜正式宣布退役。9月30日，李娜退役仪式在国家网球中心钻石球场举行，在简短的仪式过程中，李娜四次落泪，透露出她对球员好友、对球场、对球迷的不舍之情，无论多么不舍。
11月10日，WTA公布了女子年终世界排名，李娜的积分正式清零，世界排名被清除，这意味着一个时代彻底终结。她位列世界前十的周数定格在了205周。
