discover、find、detect、invent、ascertain、invent这些动词均有“发现”之意。

1、discover指发现本来已经存在，后被人认识的事物、真理或情况。

v. (动词)

1）find的基本意思是“发现，找到”，作“发现”解时指发现已存在而以前不知道的事物，作“找到”解时指找到了所寻找的东西，知道了其下落，强调寻找的结果。

引申可作“查明”“偶然遇见”“供给”“到达”“努力获得”“知道…是有的”等解。用于法律术语还可表示“裁决”。

2）find主要用作及物动词，可接名词、代词、带疑问词的动词不定式或从句作宾语，也可接双宾语，其间接宾语可以转换为介词for的宾语，可用于被动结构。
