人无信不立英语

自古以来谁也免不了一死，没有粮食不过是饿死罢了，但一个国家不能得到老百姓的信任就要垮掉。”

这句话出自《论语 · 颜渊》，是孔子所言。 子贡问政。子曰：“足食，足兵，民信之矣。”子贡曰：“必不得已而去，于斯三者何先？”曰：“去兵。”子贡曰：“必不得已而去。于斯二者何先？”曰：“去食。自古皆有死，民无信不立。”译文：子贡问怎样治理国家。孔子说，“粮食充足，军备充足，老百姓信任统治者。”子贡说：“如果不得不去掉一项，那么在三项中先去掉哪一项呢？”孔子说：“去掉军备。”子贡说：“如果不得不再去掉一项，那么这两项中去掉哪一项呢？”孔子说：“去掉粮食。自古以来人总是要死的，如果老百姓对统治者不信任，那么国家就不能存在了。”民无信不立解释：百姓对统治者不信任，那这样的国家也就不能存在下去了。 英语翻译：The country will collapse if the people have not trust in it.

我国自古以来就有关于诚信的训诫，如【“人无信不立，政无信不威”。】Our country has many old sayings concerning integrity, as【 "The person without integrity cannot be a real man, the government without integrity has no prestige 】 还可以这样表达： Those who are not trust worthy will achieve nothing. Those( who are )without integrity will not achieve anything.

这里的 信 是指信用、诚信，英语单词中最贴切的就是 integrity.这里的 立 是指成就、功名，英语单词中选择不少，个人认为accomplish 最合适。Nothing can be accomplished without integrity.You can't accomplish anything without integrity.
