associate professor是副教授。assitant professor是在讲师和副教授之间的一个级别，国内一般不说，但国内的讲师都可以称为assitant professor只要他是做研究的。和国内不同的是，在英国，assitant professor有的是可以带博士生的，有的只能带硕士，这两个级别只在能否带博士生上有不同

不同的副翻法不同。副总统可以说vice president,但副教授是associate professor。楼上说的assistant professor是助理教授，也就是中文的讲师
