What would a good city look like? To make a better city, planners aimed at creating a city in which the insalubrious environment and social structure would be defeated by a reordering of physical and social arrangements, so that all the citizens could attain the benefits of beauty, community, and democracy. In Harvey’s opinion, the better city should confront on the postmodernist challenge to political economy, and deal with environmental sustainable. However I think green buildings could make good cities, and also citizens will have a best quality of life. According to the World Green Building Council’s definition, “to significantly reduce or eliminate the negative impact of buildings on the environment and on the building occupants, green building design and construction practices address: sustainable site planning, safeguarding water and water efficiency, energy efficiency, conservation of materials and resources, and indoor environmental quality.”The green building, which is sustainable in the built environment, can reduce environmental impact but also provide better buildings. The technologies associated with green buildings include: -Energy conservation -Water conservation -Material selection -Use of renewable materials -Occupant health and indoor environment quality -Site ecology -Recycling The green building can be residential, commercial, retail and industrial buildings. For example, the green building uses water-mining plant to recycle water on toilet flushing, watering the garden, and washing cars. The building also uses phase-change materials for cooling, automatic night-purge windows, wavy concrete ceilings, which saves a lot of money and become more sustainable. The idea of green and healthy cities is becoming more important nowadays. The better city should be planed for health and well-being by planners, and they will mainly focus on service facilities, educations. The good city will also need to be safe in community, and make community more walkable, and has an urban design with exquisite streetscape. However the planner keeps developing new ideas of how cities should be changed, therefore the city will become more livable and sustainable in the future. Reference: Susan S. Today, standing here makes me feel really honored and excited. The title of my speech is Classifying Rubbish , Improving Environment. Personally, rubbish has been a big headache in Beijing. As the year 2008 is coming ,every citizen has realized Green Beijing and Green Olympics will bring the far-reaching impact on Beijing and even all China . The scense of rubbish nearly everywhere has given all of us a really bad impression, and I'm sure none of us wish to show off the bad side of Beijing to athletes and journalists all over the world, for it would blemish the city's and even China's image and leave a bad reputation. So we really have to work hard on Green Olympics.Now, we are middle school students. We must improve the sense of protecting the environment and make a contribution to Green Olympics .In our life, a lot of rubbish , such as waste paper, plastic bottles ,batteries and so on , is produced every day . After we learnt the passage Make Our Environment More Beautiful , we found a lot of rubbish thrown into dustbins could be recycled in fact during our discussion. So we thought it would be better if we could classify rubbish . we told our idea to our teacher and he supported us very much . We became volunteers to classify rubbish . Firstly we got three big boxes and put them in a corner of our classroom . One is for waste paper , one for plastics and Coke cans and the other is for batteries . With Teacher's help ,soon all the students took part in the activity of classifying rubbish .In a month , we collected three boxes of paper , a box of batteries and a box of plastics and Coke cans .We sold them for 28 yuan and bought some young trees with the money . We planted the trees around our school . We were all spoken highly of by our school principals. Now we keep on the job and are all proud of improving environment .The world trusts Beijing .Beijing still has a lot to do to reach the level the world expects, but we have the confidence to make Beijing a Green City. Great changes are taking place, and not far in the future, Beijing will be the focus of all worlds' attention. We'll grasp the opportunity and do our best to make the sky bluer, water greener and air fresher by the year 2008.Let's all wish the best for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Hello, everyone! I’m very glad to be here to give you a short speech. Today my topic is Environment Protection, I hope you will like it and find the importance of my topic so that you can more cherish our common home.
With the developing of technology and industry, we produce more and more pollution to the environment, especially in our developing country. As is known to us all, recently, many areas in China appeared a massive haze weather, which caused people have to go out with a face mask. Moreover, this phenomenon even caused the widespread attention at home and abroad, and also gave us a warning again. In addition, extreme weather, continual and countless species disappearing, global warming and so on, these all remind us of the urgency of the environment protection.
Problems are there already, so what should we do in order to improve the situation
We are just some students, we couldn’t make something especially big contribution for the environment, but we can firstly compose up in our environment, from protecting school’s environment, for example: obey the regulation forbidding chaos to throw away various waste, avoid using the drink up, mess tin, plastic bags for one time merely…such can
cut down rubbish greatly and also do good to the environment in many aspects.
Although these being minor matter at above, but if everybody gets to do, set about from saving resource and falling off contaminating at once, we are likely to be to protect the earth making a contribution out.
As the teenagers who taking knowledge now, we ought to protect environment right now. Save the resource, protect environment, act as the young host who protects the earth!

Everybody Can Help The Environment
We all know Tagore.This famous Indian poet once said, “Life is given to us, and we earn it by giving it.” As the saying goes, nature is given to us, and we earn it by contributing to it. However, most people nowadays just want to ask for more from the nature. In fact, they do very little contribution to the nature. Therefore, the environment around us is becoming worse and worse.
Do you often use batteriesThen do you know it takes 50 times more energy to make them than they produceAnd just one simple battery can pollute as much water as a person can drink in his whole life. The facts and figures are amazing. So would you please try to use batteries only when it is necessaryIf possible, give the used ones to the recycling companies so that they will be made into new ones and won’t be able to pollute the environment any more.
Sometimes we become complacent when it comes to recycling, but when you speak in terms of actual facts and figures that everybody can understand, people become much clearer about the problem.
We, as school students, can also join in recycling activities to protect the environment. For example, our class set up a recycling
center beside the back door, it is very useful. It is used to collect the waste paper and plastic bottles. In the past, our classmates used to throw all of these into the trashcan. At the very beginning of this collecting activity, it was not so warm-welcomed. Later, more and more people were influenced by the others and joined this collecting activity. Gradually, all the students in our class form a good habit to protect the environment. All of us will now put away the reusable things instead of throwing them into the trashcan.
We should always remember in our mind that protecting the environment is our duty that we can never neglect. Finally would you please let me end this speech with a little poem, “Be kind to the river. Be good to the trees. Smile at the sunshine, and bow to the breeze. Be friendly to nature, and nature will be friendly to you!”
