南方：south 、北方：north、西方：west、东方：east。

2、词义辨析：

（1）south, southern

这两个词都可表示“南部的”。其区别是：当表示一个国家或某一地区的南部不能用south,而要用southern。例如:

①He lives in southern Italy.他住在意大利南部。

②She lives in South America.她住在南美洲。

（2）in the north, on the north, to the north

这三个短语都译为“在…的北部”,其区别在于：

①in the north表示“在某区域的北部”;

Heilongjiang Province is in the north of China.黑龙江省地处中国的北部。

②on the north表示“在接壤区的北面”;

Heilongjiang Province is on the north of Jilin Province.黑龙江省地处吉林省的北面。

③to the north表示“在不接壤区的北面”。

这两个词都可作“在西方的,西部的”解。其区别在于:

①west重点在于形容方位或指从西方来的;

②western则指从某一固定点看西方,也可指从某物、某地朝西方看。

（4）at the east of, in the east of, on the east of, to the east of：

这几个短语都可以表示“位于…的东部”。其区别是：

①at the east of指两地互不包括,且距离较近。例如:

Taiwan is at the east of Fujian.台湾在福建的东边。

②in the east of指一个地区包括在另一个地区之内,位于该地区的东部。例如:

China lies in the east of Asia.中国位于亚洲的东部。

③on the east of指两地接壤,一地位于另一地之东。例如:

Tianjin is on the east of Beijing.天津在北京的东边。

④to the east of指两地相隔较远,一地位于另一地之东。例如:

在亚洲Asia前面加上东East,西West，南South,北North,中Central就行啦EastAsia，WestAsia，SouthAsia，NorthAsia，CentralAsia

划分比较明确的地区用southeast,划分不很明确的地区用southeastern.

东偏北就是，Northeast，其实字面意思来看就是叫做北偏东。英语中没有东偏北。
