1、对于英语小作文，最重要的就是审题。认真审题之后，就要对作文有一个新颖的立意。只有一个明确的中心思想，才能让人眼前一亮，印象深刻。接下来就要列好提纲，把文章的布局结构做好，不管是段落之间还是开头和结尾，要层次分明，自然过渡。还有一个可以利用的地方就是命题中的句子，从命题中给出的关键词或者是句子，拓展思路、展开联想，写出符合文意的作文内容。
2、初一的英语小作文不需要多么长的复杂句，但是每段的主题句都是非常重要的，起到点题的作用。段落的主题句是文章的概括，用词要简洁明了，让人一看就能大致了解本段要阐述的内容，从而引起读者阅读的兴趣。
3、英语小作文的写作手法基本上有顺序法、举例法、对比法、说明法、归纳法等几种。这些写作手法只要挑选其中一种或者几种来用就可以了。这一部还需要注意，不管是举例还是对比，或者是归纳，都要和文章的主题思路保持一致性，不跑题，不偏题。把握好句子间的连贯性，段落间的层次，避免内容的重复交叉。
4、除了对文章架构和段落的.注意外，还要对句式的变化和文采多做修饰。如果一篇作文里只有一两个句式，则会显得单调；如果修辞单一的话，文章就会显得空洞不充实。
5、整篇作文完成后，要进行检查。首先要从整体上，对上下文的内容进行通读，看看是否都切合文章主题要求，段落间的表达是否与整篇内容一致，删除那些和主题无关的句子。还要检查语句的通顺，用词是否准确。确保整篇文章的时态、语态一致，语法正确，词组的搭配符合日常习惯等等。
