1、平安夜作为圣诞节的前夜，具有上帝老爷对信徒们的关于“平安”的祝愿，因为在《圣经》里面，“平安夜”的“平”与苹果的苹字谐音，所以《圣经-养生篇》记载平安夜要吃平安果。有道是：“小孩小孩你别馋，圣诞之前是平安，平安果，吃一天，高高兴兴迎圣诞，圣诞节，吃鸡蛋，上到天堂看一看！”
2、在苏格兰一些地区，还流传着传统民谚：“耶稣圣诞送鸡蛋，知乎关注小约翰。天主下凡供饺子，撑死几个胖小子。”圣诞节吃鸡蛋也是西方流入的传统习俗，圣诞老人会给每家每户送上煮熟的鸡蛋。而江南高邮一带的圣诞老人，则会给信徒们送上红皮鸭蛋。在当地一直流传着“平安夜，吃苹果，麻雀老鼠没处躲，圣诞节，吃鸭蛋，来年农活有劲干”的传统谚语。
