若想表达「...之后」，英文介系词到底要用 after 还是 in？

想必大部分的人都会选 after 吧？但其实 in 也很常用喔！

在偷偷跟你说 after 和 in 的差别之前，我们先来看看以下几个句子，空格中到底该填 after 还是 in 呢？

After three weeks of hard work, we finally pleted this impossible mission.（三个星期的努力之后，我们终于完成这个不可能的任务。）

If your swelling and pain increase after three days, call the clinic for an appointment.（如果三天之后你的肿胀和疼痛有增加，要打来诊所预约看诊。）

In 的用法比较单纯，后面会接「一段时间」，表示「从现在开始一段时间之后的某个特定的时间点」会发生某事，句子的时态通常是「未来式」。

以 I will turn 30 in three months.（我三个月之后就 30 岁了。）这个句子为例，in three months 代表「从现在开始三个月后的那个特定时间点」我就会变成 30 岁。

See you in 30 minutes!（30 分钟后见喔！）的 in 30 minutes 也是一样用法，表示「从现在开始三十分钟后的那个特定时间点」我们就会碰面。

After 的用法就比较多了，后面可以接「一段时间」、「一个特定的时间点」或「一般的名词」，常表示「在一段时间、某时间点或事件结束后的任一时间点」会发生某事，而且整个句子的时态可以是「过去式」、「现在式」、「未来式」。

我们先来看看这个句子：Let’s go for a walk after dinner.（我们晚餐之后去散步吧。）after 后面是接「一般的名词」dinner，表示「在吃完晚餐后的任一时间点」去散步。

If your swelling and pain increase after three days, call the clinic for an appointment.（如果三天之后你的肿胀和疼痛有增加，要打来诊所预约看诊。）也是类似的应用，在 after 后面接上「一段时间」three days，表示「三天过后的任何一个时间点」有肿胀疼痛增加的状况，就要回诊。

最后来看 After three weeks of hard work, we finally pleted this impossible mission.（三个星期的努力之后，我们终于完成这个不可能的任务。）这个句子，after 后面是接「一段时间」three weeks，而且整个句子是发生在「过去」，所以绝对不会用 in 喔。

另外补充一下，after 也常当「连接词」用，后面会接一个「完整的句子（主词＋动词...）」。举例：

Give me a call after you get off the plane.（你下飞机之后打通电话给我。）
