1. How would you describe yourself?
Sample excellent response: My background to date has been centered around preparing myself to become the very best financial consultant I can become. Let me tell you specifically how I’ve prepared myself. I am an undergraduate student in finance and accounting at _________ University. My past experiences has been in retail and higher education. Both aspects have prepared me well for this career.
2. How has your college experience prepared you for a business career?
Sample excellent response: I have prepared myself to transition into the the work force through real-world experience involving travel abroad, internship, and entrepreneurial opportunities. While interning with a private organization in Ecuador, I developed a 15-page marketing plan composed in Spanish that recommended more effective ways the company could promote its services. I also traveled abroad on two other occasions in which I researched the indigenous culture of the Mayan Indians in Todos Santos, Guatemala, and participate din a total language immersion program in Costa Rica. As you can see from my academic, extracurricular, and experiential background, I have unconditionally committed myself to success as a marketing professional.
3. Please describe the ideal job for you following graduation.
Sample excellent response (equates ideal job with job he’s interviewing for): My ideal job is one that incorporates both my education and practical work skills to be the best I can be. Namely combining my education in finance with my working knowledge of customer service operations, entrepreneurial abilities, computer skills, and administrative skills. I want to utilize my analytical expertise to help people meet their financial goals. This is exactly why I am convinced that I would be a very valuable member of the Merrill Lynch team.
4. What influenced you to choose this career?
Sample excellent response: My past experiences have shown me that I enjoy facing and overcoming the challenge of making a sale. Without a doubt, once I have practiced my presentation and prepared myself for objections, I feel very confident approaching people I don’t know and convincing them that they need my product. Lastly, I like sales because my potential for success is limited only by how much of myself I dedicate toward my goal. If any profession is founded on self-determinism, it surely must be sales. 5. Would you describe yourself as goal-driven?
Sample excellent response: Yes, and I demonstrated my goal orientation as president of the local Jaycees, a community service organization. I am very proud of the fact that I set a goal of signing 50 new members by the end of the year, and I accomplished that.
6. What do you see yourself doing in ten years?
Sample excellent response: Ten years from now I see myself as a successful consultant for a world-class firm like yours. I want to have developed a wonderful bond with my employer I will have proven myself a highly competent systems analyst and will represent my company in helping others find solutions to their information-systems needs in a professional and timely manner.
7. What quality or attribute do you feel will most contribute to your career success? Sample excellent response: My greatest strength is my flexibility. I have learned that work conditions change from day to day and throughout the day, as well, no matter where I have worked in the past. I also have realized that certain projects require individual attention and others involve a teamwork approach. These are just a few examples of the changes that happen in the financial consulting field, as you are well aware. My flexibility to adapt to the different demands of the job has allowed me to surpass my supervisor’s expectations.
8. Are you the type of student for whom conducting independent research has been a positive experience?
Sample excellent response: Yes, I love it. I thoroughly enjoyed my senior research in college while many others in my class were miserable. I was never tired of learning more about my topic and found it exhilarating to be researching something that had not been studied before.
9. Describe the type of professor that has created the most beneficial learning experience for you.
Sample excellent response: My favorite professors were the ones who gave me hands-on learning experiences that I can apply to my career. Any person can make you memorize the quadratic equation, but someone who can show you how to use it, and why, were the professors I liked. I liked teachers who realized that sometimes there is more then one answer and everyone thinks differently.
10. Describe the characteristics of a successful manager.
Sample excellent response: A successful manager should have the vision and capabilities to formulate strategies to reach his or her objectives and communicate these ideas to his or her team members. In addition to serving as a positive role model for co-workers, successful managers must also be capable of inspiring others to recognize, develop, and apply their talents to their utmost potential to reach a common goal. These are the traits I hope to demonstrate when I’m a manager.

首先，你会用做 英文 自我介绍 吗?
考官一定会让你做英文自我介绍，有时候，会规定时间，比如一分钟，两分钟等等。面试官会问： Firstly, can you introduce yourself to us ? one minute, please.有时候会说，Can you make self-introduction to us ? 很多同学，特别非英语专业 毕业 的，听不懂 make self-introduction 是什么意思。introduction 是 introduce的名字形式，介绍的意思。如何回答 ?这个不难，应聘者可以从年龄，性别，婚姻状况，毕业院校，工作时间，工作经历，掌握的技能，以及自己性格特点， 兴趣 爱好 去答复。注意要控制时间，如果面试官没有要求，一般说2-3分钟比较合适。说得长了，面试官会厌烦，说短了，会认为你没有准备好或者是英语水平有限。
第二点，你口语自我介绍中涉及的话题都很重要，你知道吗?
特别需要重视的是，在你的自我介绍当中，你所提及的内容，自己一定要非常熟悉。面试官很喜欢拿这些来做 文章 。比如说，你说你擅长书法，他可能会问你，得过什么奖之类的。如果你说暑假去参加社区活动，面试官要你用英语describe such activity (描述这项活动)，并且问你，从中学到什么。你说你性格开朗乐观，乐于挑战，面试者会说： Can you share onething that you think is the happiest in your life ? 分享你认为最快乐的事情。或者是 could you please share the most successful thing in your life ?分享你认为你做得最成功得一件事。这样的事情很多，自己可以提前想好，组织好语言，考官一问，自己立刻回答上来了，会让考官对你刮目相看。
第三点，如何回答关于工作的问题?
考官常常问： why do you apply for this job ? 你为什么应聘这份工作，你可以如实回答。考官会接着问： why do you think your are qualified for this job ? 你为什么认为自己胜任这份工作 ( be qualified for sth 是胜任某事的意思，很多非英语专业的学生听不懂)。这个时候，你要把自己的优势列举出来，比如说，自己是学这个专业的，对这份工作很感兴趣，并且有相关实习 经验 ，或者工作经验。如果你之前有过专职工作，面试官喜欢问：what did you learn from that job ? 你从之前的工作中学到什么? what is your daily work ? 你日常工作是做些什么。考官最喜欢问： why did your quit your last job ? 你为什么辞掉上一份工作?这方面回答得越具体越好，可以说，自己觉得之前的工作提升空间不大，the chane for promotion is limited，或者是自己想换行业，觉得之前的行业不适合。比较失误的回答就是：由于我个人原因，不想做了，所以不做。最失误的回答就是，说了之前公司和老板的一大堆坏话，尽是抱怨，这样会让面试官反感。没有一个面试官会喜欢模糊回答的人和喜欢抱怨的人。因为他没有能够从中了解到他想得到的信息，你也没有很好的展示自己英语能力，更可怕的是，喜欢抱怨的人进入公司后，会带来负面影响，他不会招聘这样的人。
第四点，你了解过应聘公司和他们的行业吗?
面试官会问：Can you tell us do you know something about our company ? 或者，before you come here， have your learned some information about our company ? 所以，面试之前，要浏览和研究该公司的网站获取相关信息，并且对该行业有自己的看法，有条理地表达自己的观点，可以用上英语 firstly，secondly，thirdly，last but not least 之类的句式。并且要适当的问一下考官关于公司的一些问题，就是把你了解过程中出现的疑惑告诉他，考官会觉得你有真的关注过他们公司。考官不喜欢，没有做过功课的人，一问三不知的应聘者，往往会失败。
第五点，设置具体情境进行英语对话，你能应付吗?
这个环节难度最大，但也是最可以检验应聘者的英语能力和反映能力的测试。一般需要五分钟左右。考官会扮演客户，来工厂谈判，从都到尾都说英语，他会说，产品价格贵了，你怎么回答?或者他扮演客户，因为我们的服务不到位，当场发大火了，如何应对 ? 这些需要平时有过训练。 在这方面，有的注重交际英语的学校毕业的学生，表现的很好，可以比较自如的回答。但是，相当一部分应聘者，一句话都说不出来。应对的 措施 是：自己参考相关 商务英语 书籍，或者咨询有经验的人，进行模拟练习。可以找懂英语同学或者朋友来练习一下，或者是自己要思考过那些场景。
第六点，你想要什么样的待遇?
考官会问 what is your expectation about salary ? 这些不难回答，但是，也要在网上了解过行业工资水平。而且，一定要明白，自己什么水平，什么能力就提什么要求，不要凭空提出高要求，当然也不要把自己放得很卑微。
