格式是必须要复习的一个点。考研英语小作文的种类大致有：书信类、告示类和摘要类。当然近年考试，多出现的是书信类作文，所以大家在复习时要主抓这类文章进行复习。
首先要注意这类文章的称呼。如果不认识的人，一般用敬词+尊称，Dear Sir or Madam；如果是写给关系正式的某团体或个人，称呼为敬词+尊称+名，Dear Mrs. Xx；如果关系很亲密的话，就可以直呼名字Dear Xx。
特别注意的问题是称呼要顶格写，且每个英文字母首字母都要大写，还有就是称呼之后要用逗号。
再看正文，小作文的正文可以用两种方式，齐头式和缩进式，建议大家用缩进式。最后说说文章的结尾，大家要留出两行写此致，英文表达是“Sincerely yours，”注意结尾处逗号不能丢，还有就是文章结尾要署名，注意看文章要求，千万别写成自己的名字。
