are and连接的，一般都是复数 除非and前后连接起来指的一个东西.................................这里orange的单复与are或is没有关系，不存在就近的问题

当然是are 了，不应该 用就近原则，只能是ARE.因为只要有AND 连接就必须用谓语动词复数，

are用and 连接的名词一般动词都用复数只有一些特例如a knife and a fork is on the table.这是属于特殊的词刀叉通常都是连在一起说的，人们就把它当成单数了

the 是特指，当不可数名词特指（前面用the)时变为可数名词。用and 连接的两个名词时，就近原则，所选与 and 后面的名词保持一致
