虽然是很久以前的问题了，但还是答一下吧，也能帮助到后来者。最简单区分两个词的方法，这里就最常用的名词语义而言，limit直接用汉语中的限制，界限，极限等理解就行，英文解释差不多就是the point you can reach。而limitataion有两种完全不同的常用语义，第一个语义是the action of limitting，指limit的那种动作，跟limiting动名词的语义相似，具体使用情形的小差异只能问老外了。第二个语义是the thing that limits sth.，就是指limit你的那些个东西。

limitation和limit的区别有：
limitation只能作为名词使用，limit可以作为名词和动词使用。
limitation作为名词除了限制，还有缺点的意思，而limit作为名词意思是限制和界限。
limit只用作及物动词,接名词或代词作宾语,也可接以介词to引起的短语充当补足语的复合宾语,但不可接以动词不定式充当宾语补足语的复合宾语，limitation只能作为主语或宾语。
