Prof.是professor的简写，即教授。Dr.是doctor的简写，即博士（最高学位。且必须是取得该头衔后才能称呼。在读博士是 Doctoral Candidate）。Prof.Dr.的称呼应该只是将两个并列，类似于国内的作者简介中“教授，博士”的职称学历列出。Prof.则不一定有Dr.的学历。有一说将Prof. Dr. 也称为“博士生导师”，同PhD supervisor；Prof.则是普通教授。
