2019年7月25日 Livongo is going public as the 3-year digital health IPO drought comes to an end Livongo , a company that uses technology to help take care of patients with diabetes, is set to go public as part of a wave of digital health IPOs. The company priced its shares at $US28 apiece late Wednesday, giving it a market value of about $US2.5 billion.  Health Catalyst , a Utah-based healthcare software company, is also expected to start trading on Thursday, after pricing its IPO at $US26 a share, raising $US182 million and valuing the company at $US1 billion. Livongo and Health Catalyst join a slew of health-tech IPOs this year. Already, the healthcare software company Phreesia started trading earlier this month, after  raising $US167 million in its IPO . Change Healthcare, a Nashville, Tennessee-based revenue-cycle-management software company, spun out of the healthcare giant McKesson in June. It’s currently trading at about $US14 a share, after  pricing its offering at $US13 . Livongo was founded in 2014 and operates programs to help care for people with diabetes and other chronic diseases using a glucose meter and other devices. Typically, big companies and insurers pay monthly fees for the care. Livongo’s bet is that by using technology, coaching, and other tools, it can manage those chronic conditions better and ultimately at a lower cost. The company generated $US68.4 million in revenue in 2018, more than double the $US30.8 million it made in 2017. Its net loss widened from $US16 million in 2017 to $US33 million in 2018. The Samsung Fold is back this September – but it's not coming to Australia yet Samsung will release its  Galaxy Fold  foldable smartphone in September in select markets, the  company announced  on Wednesday. There is no update to when it will be released in Australia but it is not in the first roll out. Samsung officially unveiled the Fold – and its $US1,980 price tag –  at its Unpacked event in February 2019.  The phone was originally slated to be released on April 26, but Samsung delayed the launch indefinitely after a small number of reviewers said the screens on their device had broken after just two days of use. This should make it more clear to consumers that the protective film is part of the display and should not be removed or tampered with, the company said in a press release. Samsung also added “additional reinforcements” to ensure that external debris does not make its way into the phone and cause damage. New protection caps have also been added to the top and bottom areas of the phone’s hinge, and metal layers added underneath the display should further protect the device’s screen. The company has also decreased the amount of space between the hinge and the phone’s body. Just two days after Samsung provided tech journalists with review units of the Galaxy Fold in April, a small number of critics had reported that  the screens on their phone’s had malfunctioned . Two of those reviewers had removed the phone’s protective layer and said that the screen had stopped working after doing so. One reviewer who did not remove that film said that a bulge had formed underneath the Fold’s display, suggesting that it was suffering from a separate issue. At the time, Samsung issued a statement saying it would “thoroughly inspect” the units in person to determine the problem. But the company remained largely silent on the status of the Fold until Wednesday. When Samsung unveiled the device in February, it positioned the Fold as being the next big evolution of the smartphone. But reviewers  warned against buying the first iteration  of the Galaxy Fold given how quickly the device malfunctioned and the limited information Samsung had provided about the problems impacting the phone. Amazon's intense warehouse working conditions are being turned into a play featuring a robot made from delivery boxes Amazon’s warehouse working conditions have been the subject of many a news story in recent years – and now they’re being taken to the stage. The duo interviewed more than 70 Amazon workers over the course of three weeks, and have included the material that they gathered from these interviews in the production. Their hope is that this play will encourage others to shop more consciously. “It’s about showing people what their choices mean,” Cole told The Guardian. Many of the workers that they spoke with were “pickers” and “packers” in fulfillment centres – the employees that are responsible for finding and sorting packages to be sent out to the customer – and snippets from their conversations reveal their intense experience working there. “They give me 15 seconds from pick to pick,” one person said. “Do you know what you can do in 15 seconds? Can’t even register the thing you’re picking.” These employee accounts aren’t necessarily novel at this point. Over the past few years, several reports have surfaced of workers being forced to pee in bottles to save time and meet targets;  one writer who went undercover  working in an Amazon warehouse in England compared the working culture to a “prison.” Employees have begun to protest against what they describe as “ brutal ” working conditions. Only this month, thousands of workers across Europe and the US organised a  strike during Prime Day , one of its busiest shopping periods. A spokesperson for Amazon said that the company is providing good jobs for over 27,500 people across England. “The reality of our fulfillment centres is that employees receive industry-leading pay, great benefits, and a safe, modern work environment,” he said, adding: In fact, LinkedIn this year named Amazon as the No1 place where people in the UK want to work.”
