电镀本身的英文是Plating，简称电镀；电镀分全板电镀(Panel Plating)和图形电镀(Partten Plating)；全板电镀在沉铜之后，是将孔内铜以及覆铜板板面所有区域的铜整体加厚的电镀，作用是通过加厚铜的方法保护沉铜后孔内极薄的铜层不被氧化或腐蚀掉；图形电镀在线路图形转移之后，是单独将所需线路图形上的铜再加厚到客户端所要求的厚度的过程。之所以不在全板电镀时一起加厚，是因为图形电镀是选择性加厚，为了节约成本。
