set可用作及物动词，也可用作不及物动词。用作及物动词时，后接名词或代词作宾语，有时可接双宾语，其间接宾语可转化成介词for或to的宾语。
set还可接以形容词、介词短语、动词不定式或现在分词充当宾语补足语的复合宾语。set可用于被动结构。
lay，place，put，set这些动词均有“放”之意。区别：
1、lay指小心地把人或物平放或横放，侧重动作安稳。
2、place较正式用词，指把某物放在一个正确的位置上，侧重动作的正确。
3、put普通用词，含义较广泛。指把人或物置于某处，并将其留在该处。
4、set普通用词，指为了某种目的而将人或物放在一定位置上。指物时多指立着放。
