经有人问我：“VS”究竟是什么意思？由于以前也没有学过这个词，所以也解释不清楚确切的含义。最近在网上查到对“VS”这个词的解释。贴在这里，供大家参考。 一如OK和WC，VS也渐渐成为咱们中国老百姓熟悉的英语缩写，无论是NBA篮球大战，还是英超足球联赛，电视屏幕上VS总是最先出现在观众的视野里，什么“马刺”对“湖人”，什么“阿森纳”对“利物浦”，VS就是那洋汁洋味的“对”字。 VS的原形是VERSUS，V首当其冲，按英语乃至大多数语言字母缩略的习惯，“老大”肯定是要保留的，而一个单词里有两个S，再怎么也不能把它略去。VERSUS的同义词是AGAINST（对抗），因此我们就可以对这个英语的“对”字有更确切的了解了。 “VS”从球场到公堂，“对抗”的含义就成了“诉讼”，但在老外的眼里意思依旧，反正球场如公堂，公堂如球场，胜负难说，生死未卜，对抗（抗辩）双方总要你死我活一争雄雌，只不过球场上那你争我夺的肢体语言变成了公堂的舌枪唇剑罢了。“诉讼”一词中国老百姓更喜欢说“打官司”，所以在特定的司法场合，VS就是“打官司”，“打官司”就是VS，在海外的华文报刊上，有时出现《张三VS约翰》的大标题，华洋杂处的中文读者就知道是张三和约翰打官司了。现在国内有些时尚报刊把VS作为“遇上”以及“与”的意思，略显牵强，有时甚至有点荒腔走板，比如“成龙VS梅丽尔”，一看标题，我还以为是成龙“叫板”梅里尔，其实是两人在一起演戏罢了。编辑可能对VS的来龙去脉不是特别的清楚，进而“模糊使用”。但万一成龙先生认真起来，要与你VS——打官司的话，那可就吃不了兜着走了。 曾蒙冤入狱的美国华裔科学家李文和，年前写了一本书，中文书名为《我的国家和我对簿公堂》，2002年1月15日首发，个中铿锵有力的四个字“对簿公堂”在英文原著中仅仅一个单词就一目了然了，它就是VS的原型VERSUS，何等简洁！书名原文为《MY COUNTRY VERSUSME》别小看这个的VERSUS，它的语言分量一点儿也不比“对簿公堂”弱，在“VS———打官司”的语言含义后面，还隐含着“对垒”、“对阵”乃至“抗争”的意思，体现出李文和这个身单力薄的老人向着“不公”与“种族歧视”叫板。“美利坚合众国VS李文和”的结果：被囚禁了278个日夜后的李文和无罪获释！美国联邦法官帕克用他深沉而权威的语调承认，他被美国政府所误导。而跨出监狱大门的李文和则平静而坚定地说：“美国总统应向我道歉”，他那一头白发在午后的阳光下闪动着银色的光泽……
