英语中表示“由于”，除了because能接句子之外，还有as、since和for。
because表达的原因最强硬。如果使用because，那就是引起结果的直接原因，而导致的结果也是必然的结果。所以，在回答why的提问时，就用because来回答，因为why就是用来问直接原因的。
和because相比较，as表达的原因就暗弱了很多，这种原因和结果之间的关系，不如用because表达的那样紧密，往往用于显而易见的原因。和because一样，as引导的原因状语从句可以放在主句之前，也可以放在主句之后。
since表达原因时，和because、as相比，显得是更弱的原因，往往被翻译成“既然”。它后面跟的原因，是谈话双方都明白的、无需强调说明的原因，甚或客观事实。
for在表达原因的时候语气最弱。for后面的原因，仅仅作为一种可有可无的补充说明，或者为一种不太必须的结果，提供一种解释。
