筷子是一种食具,用于夹起食物并把它们送往口里。英文名:chopstick(单根筷子) ,chopsticks(一双筷子)。起源於中国,古代叫 箸(箸者,助也,意思是帮助吃饭的工具),也叫筯,还叫棶,因为 箸 和 住 是谐音字,有停住、不吉利的意思,后来就用停住的反义字”快“加个竹字头,就成了现在筷子名称的由来。(清朝赵翼曾引用明朝陆容的《菽园杂记》说:「起於吴中。凡舟行讳住讳翻,故呼箸为快子」)筷子从古代就流传至邻近国家,当今已成为东南亚多个民族常用的饮食工具。筷子多为竹制,亦有金属、象牙与塑料等。

筷子简介:筷子古称箸,是中国、韩国、日本、缅甸等东亚国家普遍使用的饮食工具。《韩非子·喻老》言:“昔者纣为象箸,而箕子怖。”纣王为商代末期的君主,可见早在公元前11世纪中国已出现象牙精工制造的筷子,也就是说中国有史记载的用筷历史已有3000多年。筷子是由汉族人民发明的非常具有民族特色的进食工具。民间关于筷子的传说不少,一说姜子牙受神鸟启示发明丝竹筷,一说妲己为讨纣王欢心而发明用玉簪作筷,还有大禹治水时为节约时间以树枝捞取热食而发明筷子的传说。名字由来:筷子的“筷”字是怎么发展演变过来的呢?这个称谓起自明代,明人陆容所著《菽园杂记》一书记载:“民间俗讳,各处有之,而吴中为甚。如舟行讳‘住’,讳‘翻’,以‘箸’为‘快儿’。”原来,“箸”和“住”同音,船家最怕船抛锚停住,因此改称“箸”为“快儿”,意为让船快行。今因流传已久,至有士大夫间亦呼箸为快子者,忘其始也。”日本人没有这种忌讳,因此日本把筷子叫作“箸”。筷子乃竹木所制,久而久之,后人就把“快”加了个竹字头,称作“筷子”了。

筷子,古称箸、梜,通常由竹、木、骨、瓷、象牙、金属、塑料等材料制作。筷子是华夏饮食文化的标志之一,也是世界上常用餐具之一,其发明于中国,后传至朝鲜、日本、越南等汉字文化圈。
中国人习惯用筷子,而非洲、中东、印度尼西亚及印度次大陆等地区的人则用手指去抓取。中国目前发现的最早筷子是河南省安阳市殷墟出土的铜筷子。《韩非子·喻老》言:“昔者纣为象箸,而箕子怖。”纣王为商朝末期的国君,可见3000多年前的中国就已经出现象牙筷子。

中国很早就已经使用餐具,用勺子的历史大概有8000年,用叉子的历史约4000年,用筷子的时间上限还不确定,但至少已有3000年历史,餐叉直到战国时仍在用,河南洛阳的战国墓葬曾出土捆成一捆的51枚餐叉。
战国以后,餐叉可能被淘汰了,记载和实物较少出现。勺子和筷子在先秦时的分工很明确,勺子用来吃饭,筷子用来吃羹里头的菜。
